Life With Twins – Week 52 (One Year)

Well ladies and gentlemen, today’s update marks the end of weekly updates, because somehow in the span of what felt like 10 seconds, Miles and Abby turned one and shifted in status from “infants” to “toddlers”.

Much to my surprise, both babies are basically weaned. I mentioned before that Abby quit cold turkey on me a couple of weeks ago and Miles followed quickly behind – he nurses maybe once a day, and I’m pretty sure if I stopped offering, he’d transition just fine. I started mixing cow’s milk for fear they’d dislike a flat switch from one to the other and I think that expedited the weaning process for both of them. My plan had been to drop from three feeds to two at age one with the goal to wean completely by about 14 months. I was ok with the somewhat sudden change at first, but now I suspect its taken some toll on my  mental health (more on that in another post when I can manage to get my thoughts together). On the plus side, both Abby and Miles transitioned to cows milk well and at this point we are only using freezer stash because some stash still exists.

Abigail at age One:

• 5 teeth
• 5 words (mama, daddy, yay, done, hi……and maybe up, though it sounds a lot like done so I am not sure)
• Wears between 9 and 12 month size clothes and size 3 diapers
• Army crawls and pulls up to stand. Walks behind a push toy with help. She is not cruising yet but recently did a “normal” crawl
• “Reads”  and has “conversations” with us, her toys, and herself (us Speech Therapists call this “babbling with intonation”)
• Drinks from a bottle, sippy or straw, though the sippy and straw tend to get messy
• Can feed herself with a fork or spoon if the food is placed on it first
• Loves books, stuffed toys, the toy phone (yay stereotype!) and being held
• Watches before acting
• Feeds other people
• Will update weight/height after 1 year check next week

Miles at age One:

• 7 teeth
• 1-2 words (mama, dad..maybe)
• Wears 12 month clothes and size 4 (yes, 4) diapers
• Crawls traditionally, pulls up to stand constantly and cruises some. Recently stood alone for 5 or so seconds
• Drinks from a bottle or sippy
• Finger feeds
• Dances when he hears music
• Loves hanging upside down, the bath foam letters and the mailbox toy
• Giggles like its going out of style
• Is pretty close to fearless, for a baby anyway
• Feeds the dogs
• Will update weight/height after 1 year checkup next week
