I have been to many baby showers. I don’t know how many exactly but suffice it to say its been at least what feels like a lot. I’ll admit though that every baby shower feels like a lot when you can’t manage to get pregnant, but I digress a little. The point is that while I had a good time, I distinctly remember wondering at each of them when or even if I’d ever get to go to my own. As the date approached friends would ask if I was getting excited. Of course I was getting excited but it was also very surreal in a way because after 3 years it felt like it should have been for someone else.

This time, it was my turn.

It still felt weird.

Beware the pic bombardment.

As people began to trickle in we started our first game, involving plastic babies in ice cubes. Games are cool but I had requested none of the ones that involved adults drinking out of bottles or smearing baby food in diapers in order to guess the flavor. Smearing candy bars in diapers was also out of the question. Yuck. Anyway so the first person whose ice cube melted got to yell “my water broke!”

Creepy aren't they?

I was not allowed to play this game.

Afterwards we played The Price is Right – baby stuff version. Except I forgot about the whole not going over thing and used round numbers (really? $3 is the same as $2.99). But I found that I wasn’t as horrible at guessing the price of baby stuff, except I way overestimated on the diapers. That could turn out to be a good thing, budget wise.

My favorite game involved guessing guessing what daddy said. Now, if you know my husband, this would normally make a few brows raise. Except he was specifically told his answers needed to stay G-rated, and so it was much harder for me to guess.

In case you are curious, here were the initial words and his answers:

1. TEETHING – ring

2. BATH – bubbles

3. GOODNIGHT – kisses

4. MEMORY – making  (everyone awwwwww’ed at this one)

5. CHANGING – diapers (yes, will be a lot of this soon)

6. TRAVEL – delays (we all chuckled at this one)

7. BABY’S FIRST – word (I would have gotten this one but decided that he might try to be funny and put poop – go figure he decided to be logical)

8. BURP – cloth (originally he said vomit, but changed it)

9. MOMMY’S – babies

10. NEW – vehicle

11. NURSERY – rhymes

12. DISPOSABLE – wipes (as opposed to non disposable?)

13. BOTTLE – washing

14. DADDY’s – little girl, however he originally said “leaving”. He better have been joking. 🙂

15. BOUNCING -chair/seat

Turns out he  knew more about this stuff than I thought.  I did not win this game either, but luckily only lost by 1 point so I didn’t feel too badly that someone else guessed more about my own husband than I did.

Then presents and cupcakes. These are hilarious.

One of my friends made these awesome letters to hang in the room. As we were assembling the letters to take a picture I whispered to my mom that she was holding the letters backwards. Of course we all laughed and had to take a picture anyway.

We got a lot of nice stuff, including super cute clothes, a video monitor, a car seat and lots of little necessities, including breast pads.

Is this how they work?

I may still have some learning to do.

All joking aside, it was a wonderful shower. I have a fabulous group of friends who, despite all my previous craziness, came out to celebrate with me anyway. I couldn’t have asked for anything more – and get a repeat next week (I decided to split them so I could visit with everyone more with fewer people at each)!
