It’s been interesting around here the last few days.
Bryan was making dinner on Sunday while I played Super Paper Mario on the Wii. We had nothing planned but a nice relaxing evening.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t in the cards.
Suddenly, I hear a “WHOOSH”, and flames are shooting out of the pan in the kitchen. I, not realizing its a grease fire, don’t honestly think much of it, figuring he’ll throw some water on it and it’ll be done. He, knowing it IS a grease fire, picks the pan up in attempt to avoid burning the house down and directs it towards the sink. Grease is shooting out of the pan. He throws the pan into the sink and I, still not knowing its a grease fire, turns the water on.
It re-lit, but luckily there was a wet washcloth in the sink so I covered it with that and it went out no problem.
Bryan on the other hand, was not so lucky. The shooting grease had made a few direct hits to his face and arm, meaning a trip to the ER was in order.
I’m speeding to the VA hospital with my emergency blinkers on. I just KNOW I’m going to get pulled over, but Bryan assures me it is fine, the cop will just escort us to the hospital. We are ALMOST there and I get pulled over. The cop takes my license and offers to escort us. We get to the hospital and Bryan runs in. I meet up with the cop and he hands me back my license…..and a speeding ticket.
Bryan is ok. Hurting, but ok. He has second degree burns on his cheek, lips and upper arm. He’s been hanging out at home on painkillers. So I apologize if I haven’t been commenting much recently…..which leads me to:
An update for those of you are are new stopping by: In January we had decided to move forward with an IVF next cycle with a hopeful transfer mid-April. Then, Bryan’s VA endocrinologist decides to add another hormone shot, swearing this will help us get pregnant naturally (we have mild “female factor” and more severe “male factor” – only enough sperm at last count for IVF). After much thought and now with this recent incident, we are probably going to put the IVF off until late spring/early summer. His next SA is April 1.
Finally, though it’s been posted on numerous other blogs, I wanted to add my support to Mo, who, after suffering 3 miscarriages, made it to 23 weeks and her water broke. At last update they were inducing her, and things aren’t looking good. I was really only a lurker of her blog and not nearly as close to her as some others, but my heart absolutely aches for her. Please send her, her husband, and her baby thoughts and prayers.
I can’t even begin to imagine.
To anyone who has suffered a loss or situation like this……I wish there were something I could do or say.

Glad your husband is recovering nicely. How scary for the both of you! I’m not sure I could have kept my cool.
Unfortunately, I’ve heard cop stories like yours. Giving you a ticket is not only heartless, it’s a pretty arrogant, power-hungry move. I’m not a big fan of cops for this very reason.

On the plus side, he did say if I went to court the judge would probably throw it out. But now I have to take a half day off to go. He claims I should have called an ambulance.

You may not want to trust him on that. The cop I had a couple of years ago said that I could “go talk to the judge” about my ticket since I was pulled for running a stop sign that was hidden by shrubbery and on a curve (funny how a cop just happened to be there when I ran it). When I went to court, which was traffic court, I was only allowed to tell the judge my version of the story if I agreed to a jury trial. The judge made it very clear that if I knew what was good for me, I wouldn’t opt for it. But, the judge will likely lower your fine if you ask him to in exhange for a guilty plea. Just be mentally prepared! I felt like a frightened child the first time I went. We sort of have a backwoods, good ‘ole boy judicial system where I live. Hopefully yours will be better!

Speedy recovery to Bryan! I’m glad you both kept cool heads or that could have gotten out of control quickly.
I hope you get good SA results! My husband also has his next SA in April, and we’re just hoping for something!

That speeding ticket is total, utter poo!!! Stupid cop. So sorry to hear about Bryan. Hope he feels better!!

hI. I’m here for ICLW. I can’t believe you got a speeding ticket. I thought that was the point of the escort.

I was also just a lurker of Mo’s but I’m heartbroken for her as well.
And the cop, ugh. what a douchebag.

What a drama, I’m glad everyone is alright and your husband is recovering well. Because you know, you’ll need him 😉

HAHA! got that right!

Boy, what a scare! I am sorry your husband got hurt – but extremely glad that nothing even more serious happened. Hope he’ll get better soon and heal well.

OMG on Bryan!
Ew on that cop!
And poor Mo. I don’t know her either, but read about her the other day on another blog and it’s just terrible. I hate hearing about things like that happening. It is so unfair!

Unfair doesn’t even begin to describe it

I can’t believe he gave you a speeding ticket – your hazards were on and your husband had 2nd degree burns!
I don’t know about tickets in VA but in MD (where I used to live) if you showed up and plead guilty they almost always throw out the tickets. They at least make sure no points show up on your license.

So glad to hear your husband is doing ok. Fire is so pretty, yet so scary at times!

Cue the “it’s a small world after all” song… I also went to Miami University, but I’m a Redskin, not a Red Hawk since I graduated in 1994. And, I live in Lakewood, Ohio…so I concur that Brunswick is famous for nothing!
I’m glad to hear your husband didn’t sustain worse injuries. What a scare!
Meanwhile, I hate it when you have no control over when you want to do a cycle…I’m sorry that your IVF got put on hold, but I hope the doctor knows best and that this will give you a better chance at success.
February 23, 2012 at 7:57 pm
Oh my gosh how funny!! It really is a small world!!
I, too, hope the doc knows best. My frustration level is about at its peak.

What a scary situation! I’m sorry your husband was burned but am so glad it wasn’t more serious. I see patients at the burn center at my hospital and burns can be pretty horrid. Wishing you success with your next attempt, whether it be trying “naturally” or IVF.
Thanks for stopping by my blog, too. And thanks for your comment!

Glad Bryan is ok. Here’s to a speedy recovery. The cop was kind of a dick.
Prayers and thoughts to Mo!
